CARLSBAD, CA — California Termite has been named a finalist for New Business of the Year at the 2026 Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement and Distinction (CBAD) Awards, an annual event that recognizes outstanding businesses in the community.

Founded by owner and operator John Gelhard, California Termite has quickly built a reputation for its customer-first approach and attention to detail. In its first year, the company has served more than 100 new customers and earned over 42 five-star reviews on Google.

“We’re proud and honored to be named a finalist,” said Gelhard. “We love Carlsbad, and it feels like the community loves us back since the majority of our customers live right here in the city.”

California Termite is also being recognized for promoting alternatives to traditional termite fumigation when appropriate. The company focuses on educating homeowners about termite activity, moisture issues, and preventative measures that can help protect their homes.

“Few people realize that sulfuryl fluoride, the gas used in fumigation, is a greenhouse gas thousands of times more potent than carbon dioxide,” Gelhard said. “We believe homeowners should understand all of their options.”

The winners will be announced at the CBAD Awards luncheon on March 13 at the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa. Additional awards include Business of the Year, Best Place to Work, Community Impact, and Nonprofit of the Year.
